Southern Collard Greens with Ham hocks or Smoked Turkey

Collards are also known as tree cabbage or non-heading cabbage. Though greens did not originate in Africa but originated in the eastern Mediterranean, it wasn't until the first Africans arrived in Jamestown, Virginia in the early 1600s that America got its first taste of the dark green, leafy vegetable.

Ingredients:


3 lbs collard greens washed, and cut (Remove all the stems)

2-3 medium sized smoked ham hocks or smoked turkey

10 cups water

3/4 cup SPR Collard Green Seasoning

1 large onion diced


Instructions:

1. Start off by placing the smoked ham hocks and the 10 cups of water to boil

2. Cook on medium heat for 2-3 hours, or until tender

3. Add the SSR Collard Green Seasoning and the large diced onion

4. Add the collard greens

5. Continue to cook on medium heat and let the greens cook for one and a half hours, or until tender

6. Serve with cornbread, Enjoy
